Yoga, meditation and breathing techniques were laughed upon by the West for the longest time.
How can breathing differently help you change the way you feel?
How can yoga help with sleep and overall well-being?
A lot of these questions were asked for centuries and post colonisation, we did go through the phase of “anything west” is the best.
From clothing brands to food supplies, western names always found itself to our heart. This might have been the same reason we neglected yoga, not a lot of western movies portraying yoga, so we definitely found it to be uncool.
Look at it now, there are enough research papers stating the importance of breathing techniques. Some breathing techniques are directly linked to higher heart rate variability.
Yoga and its practices were uncool. But now after Huberman and Wim Hof, it’s cool and socially acceptable to practice techniques like NSDR (Non-Rest Deep Relaxation). Bro, that’s called Yoga Nidra and we’ve had it for centuries.
Unfortunately, the market size of yoga in USA is significantly larger than the market size of yoga in India. Population isn’t the only driving factor, demand plays a huge role too.
Is it fair to say history might repeat itself with respect to ayurveda?
I’m all for research papers to check the efficacy of any herb/drug. It’s a MUST.
Just to oversell, clock more revenue and hit targets brands have promised us the sky.
Ashwagandha increases testosterone.
Ashwagandha has some research papers suggesting it reduces cortisol, NOTHING ELSE.
High cortisol levels inhibit higher testosterone production. Yep we found this loophole. Let’s market this.
In a man who has normal levels of testosterone, ashwagandha has no evidence of boosting testosterone.
But who cares, we still found the loophole. It’s an insecurity and let’s make money.
Tongkat Ali, Ginseng, Red ginseng, Black ginseng, Lion’s Mane. Yes let’s not talk much about these.
We oversold so much with false and manipulated gimmicks that we ourselves aren’t aware of what herb can do what.
So what’s the solution?
Go back to our Vedas and Samhitas to see what herb results with what outcome.
Who should it be consumed by? All ages? All genders? Should be consumed for what duration? Can everyone consume it or just the ones with that deficiency?
Pick that herb, conduct Double blinded placebo controlled randomised trials on these herbs. Keep them as transparent as possible.
Not discarding placebo positive trials, a 75% efficient herb is better than a false 100% efficient herb.
We here at Neureos only work with amino acids, but would love to have a conversation on the same.
Happy Monday
